The Africanization Program is the Institute’s flagship initiative — designed to create a win-win playing field for scholars and professionals of African descent who wish to deploy their talents on the continent. It is structured around three roundtables: the ONE AFRICA Roundtable, the Health Organization Roundtable, and the Orientation Council.
Africanization, in our framing, is not a return to a romanticized past. It is the practical work of matching the dispersed brilliance of the African intellectual diaspora to the questions, institutions, and opportunities that the continent actually presents today. The program’s three roundtables are the Institute’s mechanism for doing that matching at scale.
Who participates
Participants are drawn from the Institute’s membership and from invited continental partners. Each roundtable is convened twice yearly — once in continental sessions on the African continent, once in diaspora sessions in North America or Europe. Outputs include working papers, joint policy briefs, and ongoing partnership commitments between participating scholars and continental institutions.
To participate, apply for IIAS Membership and indicate which roundtable aligns with your education, experience, and qualifications.
